OSL’S Organ Recital Series returns in August. Recitals will be held on Wednesdays, from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m., followed by a light lunch. All singers are invited to share their musical talents with others and glorify God in worship by joining an OSL choir! All are welcome; there are no auditions. Come to the Choir Room on Aug. 30 and Sept. 6, at 6:30 p.m., to prepare to sing at Festive worship services on Sept. 10. This is for all singers--cantors too! Starting with the Aug. 30 rehearsal, Our Savior’s Choir will rehearse every Wednesday (beginning on Sept. 17, the choir will have warm-ups at 10:15 a.m. for singers who missed the Wednesday rehearsal); Response Singers will begin weekly rehearsals on Sept. 17, at 8:00 a.m., in the Choir Room. The Noah’s Ark Party Open House is happening this Sunday, Aug. 27, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. , in the Heavenly Hangout, for children through age three and their parents. You’ll be introduced to the parent/child Frolic room and experience the Noah’s Ark story stations to see how this weekly hour together will empower you to infuse faith into everyday play. Plan to be there at 9:30, 9:45, or 10:15 for a brief presentation. A small snack will be served.

Thanks to 90 children and youth who participated in the OSL Library’s “Build a Better World” Summer Reading Program. They checked out a total of 733 books over ten weeks. Be sure to look at the bulletin board in the Library, which tracked checkouts by building a domino city. Jay Novak won the children’s division, reading 130 books, and Hannah Nesdahl and Braeden Dick tied in the junior/youth division, reading 28 books each. The librarian will be contacting you about your prizes.

The next monthly outdoor worship service will be on Sunday, Sept. 3, at 8:45 a.m., weather permitting.
Beyond Addiction book study group will meet on Wednesday, Aug. 30, in the Caring Ministries area, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., to discuss chapter 9, “Positive Communication.” Beyond Addiction rejects the drama of interventions and tough love in favor of kindness, positive reinforcement, and motivational and behavioral strategies to help their loved ones move beyond addiction.
Big Soo Coupon Books are available at the Youth Information Table on Sundays (or in the Church Office during the week). Books are $40 each, with $10 of each sale going toward next summer’s youth trips!
The Market for Hunger is back! Produce will be available on Sunday mornings, from 9:45 to 11:00, for a freewill donation, which will be used to fight hunger. If you have fresh garden produce to contribute, bring it to the Market for Hunger table in The Gathering Place on Sunday mornings.
Serve Sioux Falls: All OSL members and friends are encouraged to sign up to be part of a 60-day citywide service campaign this summer to help transform our city with God’s Spirit of love and mercy. City Fest, a celebration of the season of service that has been Serve Sioux Falls, will be held at Sioux Falls Canaries Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 26, and will include a main stage with local and multicultural speakers, and Christian music artists Jere-my Camp and The Newsboys. Pick up your free ticket on Sunday morning at the Information Center, or in the Church Office during the week.

A Little Further Out...

Kick-Off Weekend will be Sept. 9 and 10! Sunday School will resume (Wednesday School and other Wednesday programming will follow on Sept. 13), and OSL will return to the regular worship schedule:

Worship services this September will feature a three-week miniseries focusing on key themes from the movie The Shack. Prepare for the series by attending one of these movie showings, in the HolyWord Theater: Saturday, Sept. 9, at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 10, at 12:30 p.m. (pizza and salad lunch will be served for those who RSVP to the OSL Library by noon on Thursday, Sept. 7), or Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 6:00 p.m. Popcorn will be provided at all showings.
Confirmation orientation for sixth graders and their parents or caring adults will be on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 6:00 p.m., in Fellowship Hall. You will receive information about the program, expectations for participation, and opportunities to serve and lead, and you will have the chance to ask questions.
The One Church One Read fall selection, A Man Called Ove by Fredrick Backman, is available for check-out in the OSL Library. Join in the book discussion on Sept. 24, at 10:00 a.m., in the Office Conference Room.
Emerge Youth Group orientation for ninth graders and their parents or caring adults will be on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 7:00 p.m., in the Youth Room. You will receive information about your upcoming Affirmation of Baptism service and other events and expectations around this milestone, get a taste of what Youth Group is like, and have the chance to ask questions.
The Church Office will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4, in observance of Labor Day. No events or activities will take place at Our Savior’s that day.
The Women’s Fall Retreat is coming up, on Sept. 22 and 23, at Joy Ranch, near Watertown. The weekend will focus on “Mindfulness and Your Faith,” with Pr. Cindy Hoy as facilitator. Cindy is the director of Pastoral and Spiritual Care at Sanford. Music will be provided by Toni LeVasseur. Register online at
