OSL’S Organ Recital Series returns in August. Recitals will be held on Wednesdays, from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m., followed by a light lunch. Here is the schedule: Sept. 6: Kyle Quanbeck, Peace Lutheran; Sept. 13: Marilyn Schempp, Our Savior’s Lutheran; Sept. 20: Ken Mannes, Salem-Zion Mennonite Church, Freeman; Jeffrey Thormodsgard, Augustana University student, Sept. 27.
Join Pr. Sami Johnson and Melissa Nesdahl, Director of Faith Formation, in going to the Moxie Matters Tour, featuring Jen Hatmaker and Nichole Nordeman. This women’s event, “lively conversation and soulful music on wrangling delight out of the mess of life,” will be held in Sioux Center, Iowa, on Oct. 26, from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. Sign up by Monday, Sept. 4, via the SignUpGenius link at; at the Information Center; or by emailing or Tickets are $31.37. All singers are invited to share their musical talents with others and glorify God in worship by joining an OSL choir! All are welcome; there are no auditions. Come to the Choir Room on Sept. 6, at 6:30 p.m., to prepare to sing at Festive worship services on Sept. 10. This is for all singers--cantors too! Our Savior’s Choir will have regular rehearsals on Wednesdays at 6:30, and will have warm-ups on Sundays at 10:15 a.m. (beginning on Sept. 17) for singers who missed the Wednesday rehearsal. The Church Office will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4, in observance of Labor Day. No events or activities will take place at Our Savior’s that day.
Thanks to your generosity, some 8,118 meals were served to area boys and girls at OSL this summer, as part of Feeding Sioux Falls’ Free Summer Lunch Program, a partnership among local nonprofits, the Sioux Falls School District, and Celebrate Church. Lunches at OSL were sponsored by EmBe, which prepared and served the weekday meals, with OSL members serving as greeters and friends to the 153 kids per day (on average) who participated in the program. Thank you for opening the doors to Our Savior’s to help these young neighbors!

Emerge Youth Group orientation for ninth graders and their parents or caring adults will be on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 7:00 p.m., in the Youth Room. You will receive information about your upcoming Affirmation of Baptism service and other events and expectations around this milestone, get a taste of what Youth Group is like, and have the chance to ask questions.

The next monthly outdoor worship service will be on Sunday, Sept. 3, at 8:45 a.m., weather permitting.
Confirmation orientation for sixth graders and their parents or caring adults will be on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 6:00 p.m., in Fellowship Hall. You will receive information about the program, expectations for participation, and opportunities to serve and lead, and you will have the chance to ask questions.
Kick-Off Weekend is next weekend--Sept. 9 and 10! Sunday School will resume (Wednesday School and other Wednesday programming will follow on Sept. 13), and OSL will return to the regular worship schedule:

A Little Further Out...

Worship services this September will feature a three-week miniseries focusing on key themes from the movie The Shack. Prepare for the series by attending one of these movie showings, in the HolyWord Theater: Saturday, Sept. 9, at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 10, at 12:30 p.m. (pizza and salad lunch will be served for those who RSVP to the OSL Library by noon on Thursday, Sept. 7), or Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 6:00 p.m. Popcorn will be provided at all showings.
Join other OSL members packing lunches for the working poor in the community at Lunch Is Served on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 12:30 p.m., at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2600 E. 12th St. All ages are welcome! Our Savior’s is joining in Project Warm-Up, which provides fleece tie blankets to homeless area students and families that have endured tragedy, new recipients of Habitat for Humanity homes, and children in the children’s hospital. OSL will be collecting financial and fleece donations through Sept 24. For fleece, get two pieces of equal size fleece (one solid and one print), 1¼ by 1¼ yard (for a baby/toddler), 1½ by 1½ yard (for a child) or 2 by 2 yards (for adolescents or adults). Place your donated fleece in the collection tubs outside the Caring Ministries area on Sundays, or drop it off in the Church Office during the week. For financial contributions, designate “blanket project” in the memo line of your check. Then, on Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., all are invited to come together for a blanket-tying party in The Gathering Place. Come be part of the fun!
Have some fun at OSL Game Night, Friday, Sept. 15, from 6:30 to 9:00, in The Gathering Place. Bring your favorite games, clearly marked, to play with or teach others. Outdoor games will be played till dark; Bingo will be played in the Labyrinth Room. Popcorn and drinks will be provided by the Board of Congregational Life.
Children, youth, and adults are invited to participate in Stick Together, the OSL Library’s fall intergenerational reading program, beginning on Sept. 10. Each day you check out items, you will receive a treat and a colored sticker to add to the “Stick Together with God, Family, and Friends” mosaic, which will reveal one of God’s blessings in our lives.
T-Shirt Sunday: God’s Work Our Hands Sunday is Sept. 17 here at OSL. Wear your yellow God’s Work Our Hands T-shirt, your favorite Live Generously T-shirt, or your Serve Sioux Falls T-shirt that day to help celebrate the work we’re all doing in our community and in the world!
Students in grades 6 through 12 and their parents are invited to learn about next summer’s Week of Hope service trip to Minneapolis. Meet on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 10:00 a.m., in the back Youth Room, to get details on the trip, which will be July 15 through 20 and will cost around $550, with a $150 nonrefundable deposit due by Oct. 11.
The One Church One Read fall selection, A Man Called Ove by Fredrick Backman, is available for check-out in the OSL Library. Join in the book discussion on Sept. 24, at 10:00 a.m., in the Office Conference Room.
Lutheran Men in Mission will resume on Sept. 16. The group meets on the third Saturday of each month, at 8:30 a.m. in the Office Conference Room, for an hour of Bible study, breakfast, and fellowship. For details, contact Pr. Tim, 336-2942.
The Women’s Fall Retreat is coming up, on Sept. 22 and 23, at Joy Ranch, near Watertown. The weekend will focus on “Mindfulness and Your Faith,” with Pr. Cindy Hoy as facilitator. Cindy is the director of Pastoral and Spiritual Care at Sanford. Music will be provided by Toni LeVasseur. Register online at
