The next OSL Summer Blast will be next Wednesday, July 12, bringing food, fun and games, and outdoor worship to OSL members, neighbors, and friends! Food will be served starting at 5:00 p.m., with fun and games at 5:30. A simple worship service will follow, at 6:30. NeSoDak day camp staff will lead singing. It’ll be a hot time!
Lutherans Outdoors Day Camp is next week, July 10 through 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. NeSoDak staff will bring the outdoor camp experience indoors for students who have completed kindergarten through fifth grade. Contact Melissa Nesdahl,
The One Church One Read fall selection, A Man Called Ove by Fredrick Backman, is available for check-out in the OSL Library. Join in the book discussion on Sept. 24, at 10:00 a.m., in the Friendship Room.
OSL has an opening for a part-time Nursery Supervisor. This paid position is ideal for someone who loves children, is committed to the Nursery as a ministry of hospitality of this congregation, and has at least three years of experience working with children through age four. Saturday evening Festive worship will remain at 5:00.

The next monthly outdoor worship service will be on Sunday, Aug. 6, at 8:45 a.m., weather permitting. If weather doesn’t permit, an attempt will be made on the following Sunday.
Houston, we have a Gathering! The 2018 ELCA Youth Gathering will be June 25 through July 1 in Houston, Tex. The first interest meeting for OSL students and parents is coming up next Wednesday, July 12, at 7:00 p.m., at the firepit on Prairie Ave. The Youth Gathering is a triennial event for students who will be in grades 8 through 12 in the 2017–2018 school year.
Serve Sioux Falls: All OSL members and friends are encouraged to sign up to be part of a 60-day citywide service campaign this summer to help transform our city with God’s Spirit of love and mercy. A Little Further Out...

A meeting of the OSL congregation will be held on Sunday, July 23, from 8:50 to 10:25 a.m., in The Gathering Place. The agenda will include a midyear financial update. Because of the meeting, that morning’s Festive worship service will start at 10:30. Stop by The Gathering Place on July 9 and 16, between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m., to pick up information about Hezekiah House, which also will be discussed at the congregational meeting. Council members will be on hand on the ninth and the 16th to answer questions and provide more information to help you prepare for the congregational meeting.
Have you registered your upcoming sixth grader for Confirmation Camp at Joy Ranch? There’s still time! Camp will be from July 23 through 26. The link to register is at Contact Elise ( or 507-438-9170) if you have any questions.
The Women’s Fall Retreat is coming up, on Sept. 22 and 23, at Joy Ranch, near Watertown. The weekend will focus on “The Art of Mindfulness,” with Pr. Cindy Hoy as facilitator. Cindy is the director of Pastoral and Spiritual Care at Sanford. Music will be provided by Toni LeVasseur. Register online at
Gentle Yoga, Mindfulness, and Centering Prayer will meet on Saturday, July 15, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., in the Labyrinth Room. Classes ($5 each) meet every other week. All ages and abilities are welcome, including elementary school-age children—another great cross-generational opportunity!
The OSL Library is sponsoring its “Build a Better World” Summer Reading Program. Kids (through high school) are invited to help “build a better world” domino city in the Library. Kids, for each book you read, you will get a dot on a domino used for the city scene, and your checkout receipt will make you eligible for a $5 weekly prize drawing. The reading program will run for 10 weeks; you will receive a treat and prize with every check-out. At the program’s completion, the two youth who have read the most books and accrued the most domino city dots will receive a grand prize! By participating, you will be invited to participate in the OSL Library Committee’s service project, included in Serve Sioux Falls (organized by LifeLight, Empower Sioux Falls, and Volunteers of America–Dakotas), to put the reading program theme to work and live out OSL’s mission, Connecting Faith with Everyday Life.
Connect faith to everyday life by being one of 25 OSL volunteers who will help to serve breakfast at the Banquet on Wednesday, Aug. 9. Sign up at the Information Center, or call Jon Voight, 334-8410 or 323-9591.
Kathy Nelson will be facilitating a three-week Women’s Bible Study on July 13, 20, and 27, at 5:30 p.m., in the Office Conference Room. The focus will be the summer study “All Anew,” by Kelly Fryer, found in Gather magazine. The study may be downloaded, free, from, or you may check out Gather from the OSL Library. Summer Recent Loss Group will meet on Tuesday evenings, June 27 through July 25 (except July 4) from 6:30 to 7:30, in the Chapel. Michelle Anderson, RN, FCN, will facilitate the series, which will allow for time to share and support one another on our grief journeys. No registration is required.
