This is Kick-Off Weekend! Sunday School will resume (Wednesday School and other Wednesday programming will follow on Sept. 13), and OSL returns to the regular worship schedule:
Saturday, 5:00 p.m. – Festive
Sunday, 8:45 a.m. – Festive and Celebrate
Sunday, 11:00 a.m. – Festive and Celebrate
Join Pr. Randy for another round of adult confirmation. The class will meet on Wednesdays for six weeks, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., in the Friendship Room, starting on Sept. 13. The text for this session will be By Heart, a richly illustrated, in-depth exploration of the Small Catechism. The class will be a perfect way to prepare for the 500th anniversary of the Reformation. A donation of $15 will help offset the cost of the book. All are welcome.
Children, youth, and adults are invited to participate in Stick Together, the OSL Library’s fall intergenerational reading program, beginning on Sept. 10. Each day you check out items, you will receive a treat and a colored sticker to add to the “Stick Together with God, Family, and Friends” mosaic, which will reveal one of God’s blessings in our lives.
OSL’S Organ Recital Series is back. Recitals will be held on Wednesdays, from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m., followed by a light lunch. Here is the schedule: Sept. 13: Marilyn Schempp, Our Savior’s Lutheran; Sept. 20: Ken Mannes, Salem-Zion Mennonite Church, Freeman; Sept. 27: Jeffrey Thormodsgard, Augustana University student.

Beyond Addiction book study group will meet on Wednesday, Sept. 13, in the Caring Ministries area, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., to discuss chapter 10, “Reinforcement: The Driver of Change.” Beyond Addiction rejects the drama of interventions and tough love in favor of kindness, positive reinforcement, and motivational and behavioral strategies to help their loved ones move beyond addiction.
Have some fun at OSL Game Night, Friday, Sept. 15, from 6:30 to 9:00, in The Gathering Place. Bring your favorite games, clearly marked, to play with or teach others. Outdoor games will be played till dark; Bingo will be played in the Labyrinth Room. Popcorn and drinks will be provided by the Board of Congregational Life.
Join other OSL members packing lunches for the working poor in the community at Lunch Is Served on Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 12:30 P.M., at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 2600 E. 12th St. All ages are welcome! A Little Further Out...

Worship services this September will feature a three-week miniseries focusing on key themes from the movie The Shack. Prepare for the series by attending one of these movie showings, in the HolyWord Theater: Saturday, Sept. 9, at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 10, at 12:30 p.m. (pizza and salad lunch will be served for those who RSVP to the OSL Library by noon on Thursday, Sept. 7), or Wednesday, Sept. 13, at 6:00 p.m. Popcorn will be provided at all showings.
Lutheran Men in Mission will resume on Sept. 16. The group meets on the third Saturday of each month, at 8:30 a.m. in the Office Conference Room, for an hour of Bible study, breakfast, and fellowship. For details, contact Pr. Tim, 336-2942.
Our Savior’s is joining in Project Warm-Up, which provides fleece tie blankets to homeless area students and families that have endured tragedy, new recipients of Habitat for Humanity homes, and children in the children’s hospital. OSL will be collecting financial and fleece donations through Sept 24. For fleece, get two pieces of equal size fleece (one solid and one print), 1¼ by 1¼ yard (for a baby/toddler), 1½ by 1½ yard (for a child) or 2 by 2 yards (for adolescents or adults). Place your donated fleece in the collection tubs outside the Caring Ministries area on Sundays, or drop it off in the Church Office during the week. For financial contributions, designate “blanket project” in the memo line of your check. Then, on Wednesday, Sept. 27, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., all are invited to come together for a blanket-tying party in The Gathering Place. Come be part of the fun!
T-Shirt Sunday: God’s Work Our Hands Sunday is Sept. 17 here at OSL. Wear your yellow God’s Work Our Hands T-shirt, your favorite Live Generously T-shirt, or your Serve Sioux Falls T-shirt that day to help celebrate the work we’re all doing in our community and in the world!
Check Meowt: Lulu the Lion will greet worshipers as they enter OSL and hand out Pete the Cat bookmarks on Check Meowt Sunday, Sept. 17; Lu the Lion will visit Wednesday School on Sept. 20. Sponsored by the OSL Library, Lu and Lulu are encouraging kids and youth to read and take advantage of everything the Library has to offer. Each child who checks out books will also receive a prize.
Students in grades 6 through 12 and their parents are invited to learn about next summer’s Week of Hope service trip to Minneapolis. Meet on Sunday, Sept. 17, at 10:00 a.m., in the back Youth Room, to get details on the trip, which will be July 15 through 20 and will cost around $550, with a $150 nonrefundable deposit due by Oct. 11.

Are you planning to go to Houston next summer for the ELCA Youth Gathering? Deposits are due by Sept. 17! Registration and information packets can be found at the Youth Information Table on the west end of The Gathering Place.
The Women’s Fall Retreat is coming up, on Sept. 22 and 23, at Joy Ranch, near Watertown. The weekend will focus on “Mindfulness and Your Faith,” with Pr. Cindy Hoy as facilitator. Cindy is the director of Pastoral and Spiritual Care at Sanford. Music will be provided by Toni LeVasseur. Register online at
