A meeting of the OSL congregation will be held this Sunday, July 29, at 11:45 a.m., in The Gathering Place. The agenda will include a midyear financial update and other information. Lunch will be served at 11:30. Plan to attend!
This summer’s OSL Children’s Night at Thunder Road will be July 29, from 4:00 to 7:00. Everyone with a child through fifth grade is welcome to bring the entire family! Just say you’re with Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Children’s to get special priced $4.50 one-attraction one-time tickets or two times in batting cage, tilt-a-whirl, or laser maze. Children age five and under may play mini-golf free with a paying adult. Come and go as you wish, getting as many tickets as your family wants.
Growing the Church God’s Way: A Study of Ephesians,” led by Pr. Randy, continues on Tuesdays, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., in The Gathering Place. Light snacks and beverages will be served. A $10 donation will help cover the cost of Bible study materials. Come and join the conversation!
Get Moving: First Lutheran, Gloria Dei, East Side Lutheran, and OSL will compete in a friendly walking challenge during August. Walkers and runners from each congregation will keep track of their steps (forms are at the Information Center or in the Church Office), and the top 10 from each congregation will be added up to see who gets bragging rights! OSL’s Organ Recital Series continues. Recitals will be held on Wednesdays, from 12:15 to 12:44 p.m., followed by a light lunch ($7 per person). Here is the schedule:

Lunch Is Served provides sack lunches for working men and women who are trying to break out of poverty. There’s room for 15 to 20 OSL members to help put together 300 lunches on Monday, July 30, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 1600 E. 12th St. Middle- and high-school families are invited to participate. OSL Middle School Lock-In, “Rev It Up,” for incoming sixth- through ninth-graders, will be on Friday, Aug. 3, from 8:00 p.m. to 7:00 Saturday morning. The night will start at OSL with games, worship, and fun, then move to Thunder Road to join with youth groups from all over the area for go-carts, mini golf, laser tag, and more. A Little Further Out...

A reception honoring Marilyn Schempp, who is retiring from OSL after 22 years as principal organist and Associate Director of Music and Fine Arts, will be held next Sunday, Aug. 5, in The Gathering Place West, from 11:00 a.m. to noon. Be sure to stop by for refreshments and to greet Marilyn as she and Mark enter this time of transition in their lives. To contribute to a cash gift for Marilyn, visit the Church Office.
The Healing Garden, located near the south entrance, represents the cycle of life. It is a unique environment of beauty, silence, and serenity, a place to think, pray, grieve, hope, give thanks, and remember. To celebrate the Healing Garden—and the volunteers who keep it beautiful—there will be a Garden Party on Sunday, Aug. 5, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Come enjoy refreshments and the beauty of the garden—then stop inside and greet Marilyn Schempp (see above).
The OSL Library’s Summer One Church One Read title will be Eleanor Oliphant Is Completely Fine by Gail Honeyman. Be sure to check out a copy in the Library, then join the discussion on Sept. 23 in the Conference Room.
Ark in the Park, the season’s final Summer Blast, is coming on Wednesday, Aug. 8­—rain or shine! Come and enjoy good food, a fun animal-themed game, yard games, the ZooMobile, and worship with Short Notice. You don’t want to miss this fun event for all ages. Invite your friends to this fun summer night out! The meal starts at 5:00 and worship starts at 6:30.
This summer’s OSL Day at the Parks is scheduled for Aug. 12! Come for worship at the McKennan Park Bandshell at 10:00 a.m., weather permitting, then plan to spend the afternoon at the Birdcage as the Sioux Falls Canaries host the Fargo Moorhead Redhawks. Pr. Randy will throw out the first pitch! Game time is 1:05 p.m. Tickets are available for $8 per person at the Information Center or in the Church Office.
OSL Youth and Family Night at Wild Water West will be on Aug. 15, from 4:00 to 8:00. There will be a live DJ, prize giveaways, and fun in the sun at a special price: Over 48 inches tall, $7.50 plus tax; under 48 inches and seniors (60 and older), $4 plus tax; and age two and younger, free. Children in grade five and younger must have a parent or caring adult present. If you plan to drop off your 6th- through 12th-grader and want them to check in/out with John, contact him in advance: See you there!
Welcome to Church, a Milestone for two-year-olds, will be held on Aug. 19, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Your family will enjoy a kid-friendly lunch in The Gathering Place, then explore the building together, having pictures of your child taken at key locations that will then be made into individualized books for you to keep and read together often. Reading Rocks!, the OSL Library’s summer reading program, will run through Aug. 5. Each day they check out items, children through adults will receive a treat and submit their checkout receipt into a contest to determine which child, youth, and adult read the most books during the nine-week program. The Library will track and display the number of books read throughout the summer.

Opportunities and Things to Note...

OSL supports the Food To You Mobile Food Pantry by donating various food items throughout the year, which will be used by local families in need. The food item for July is macaroni and cheese; for August, it will be pasta. Donations may be placed in the marked bins near the south entrance, by the Library.
This summer’s Noisy Offering will be given to two agencies that are making an impact in the lives of children in our community: the Hope Coalition and Project SOS–Supply Our Students. The Hope Coalition is determined to make preschool accessible for all children, and Supply Our Students is working to provide every student with the necessary school supplies. Thank you for your generous support, and thank you to OSL kids, who play an important role in making the Noisy Offering happen each week.
Connect faith to everyday life by being one of 25 OSL volunteers who will help to serve breakfast at the Banquet on Wednesday, Aug. 8. Sign up at the Information Center, or call Jon Voight, 334-8410 or 323-9591.
Summer weather brings out the Caretakers, volunteers who help with clean-up, light yardwork, and other chores around the OSL campus. The group works outside as weather permits, and finds things to do inside when it doesn’t. To join the Caretakers, simply show up in The Gathering Place on Thursday morning, from 9:00 to noon. Wear work clothes (hat and work gloves) and bring a water bottle. Tools will be provided. Joel Ziebarth will be on hand to get things rolling.
Caring Friends Opportunities exist at Bethany Meadows, Brandon; Morgan Lane Village, Tea; Good Samaritan Center, Canton; and Edgewood Vista, Covington Care Center, and Southridge Healthcare in Sioux Falls. Caring Friends serves members who are homebound or in nursing homes or care facilities. As a site for the Summer Food Service Program, OSL will be open through Aug. 17 for children through age 18 to enjoy free, nutritious lunches, Monday through Friday, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., in Fellowship Hall. Parents, babysitters, or caring adults should accompany their children. There’s no sign-up, no forms, and no requirements. All are welcome. Questions? Pr. Sami, or 336-2942, ext. 12.
