Today, Thursday, May 21, is Ascension—a good opportunity to reflect on what it means to receive the gift of ministry as the people of God. The ELCA has produced a resource for Ascension prayer in the home, which you will find reprinted on the OSL website.
As of now, in-person indoor activities at OSL are canceled to June 15, with two exceptions: OSL will serve as a polling place for the June 2 elections; and OSL will once again serve as a host site for the Summer Food Service program, which will likely begin in early June. Stay tuned for updates here, or sign up to receive Coming up at OSL via email every week via the button at the bottom of this page.

The OSL Library will begin curbside checkout on June 1. (The Library itself remains closed for now.) Details about curbside hours and procedures will soon be posted on OPAC, the online card catalog. Meanwhile, you may reserve books via OPAC: go to and click the “View the Library Catalog” button to access OPAC.
You’ll find this week’s pastoral letter on the OSL website—and you’ll find previous weeks’ letters there, too.

Hard to believe, but Hear and Know, Our Savior’s podcast, is already up to episode 5! You can listen in here, and check out previous installments while you’re there.
Stay updated on OSL’s continuing response to Covid-19 on the OSL website and Facebook page. And stay well!
Faithful, Hopeful, Loving is Our Savior’s 2020 Stewardship Appeal. If you haven’t already, consider growing in your giving and become a 2020 Mission Investor by completing your Estimate of Giving card and returning it to the Church Office. If you’ve mislaid yours, which should have come in the mail a few weeks ago, contact the Church Office (336-2942) for a new one. Or you may fill it out online: visit for details and a link to the digital form. Together we stand, in faith, hope, and love. Together we are the church that proclaims Christ and nurtures faith that connects to everyday life, no matter what.

OSL has been challenged! Our friends at First Lutheran have challenged us to see who can get the most participants to walk, run, or bike 100 miles! So members and friends are encouraged to get moving, from May 7 to June 7. This would be a great way for families to engage in a physical exercise project together. Participants must register with Deb Harlan, Read all about it here, or contact Deb.

Visit to view OSL members’ Generosity Stories, as well as “Your Estimate of Giving Card: A How-To Video,” which was shown in worship services on May 10.
How Do I Worship at Home? In-person church activities at OSL have been canceled for the time being, due to the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic, but the worship life of the OSL community goes on! Here’s how you can participate from home:
• View (or print) weekly worship materials at
• Watch worship services on TV: Celebrate: 9:00 a.m., KTTW (cable channel 9; channel 7.1); Festive: 1:00 p.m., KSCB (cable channel 30; channel 53).
• Catch live-stream worship services at Celebrate, 8:45 a.m.; Festive, 10:15 a.m.
• Watch recorded services at, uploaded on Monday.
• Praise God, from whom all blessings flow!
Keep up with the latest in socially distant worship opportunities, faith formation, and more on OSL’s Facebook page! For instance:

  • Each Tuesday, “Freddy’s Faith-Full Friends” will teach you a song, enabling you to participate in Sunday worship from home.
  • Each Thursday, Melissa Nesdahl, Director of Faith Formation, will include a Faith in the Home video, containing a scripture reading, contemplation/discussion questions, and an activity to help you act on and process the scripture reading.

    Opportunities to Serve,
    and Things to Note...

During these difficult times, perhaps more than ever, seniors and the homebound need to be supported with meal delivery, and you can help! The procedure has changed, so there is no personal contact: meals are packaged in plastic bags and hung on the recipients’ door handles. If you can help with delivery, or if you need more information, call Sandy Garnas, 338-5440. Thank you for helping our neighbors in need!

    Campus Cupboard photo
You can support OSL’s Augustana Campus Cupboard during the COVID-19 pandemic by buying some, or all, of the items on the shopping list you’ll find here. You’ll find all the details you need there, too. Thanks for your support of OSL’s Augustana neighbors—about 100 of whom are still on campus!
OSL supports the Food to You Mobile Food Pantry by donating various food items to help local families in need, and helping with food distributions. The item for May is peanut butter; for June, it will be tuna and tuna helper. Place your donations in the marked bins near the south entrance, by the Library. Remember, the south entrance doors will be unlocked from 8:00 a.m. to noon, Monday through Thursday.
