From generation to generation, God has been dreaming of this moment.” This Advent season, OSL will draw from resources created by Barn Geese Worship: Out of the Blue. The series continues its pre-Advent warm-up this weekend). A weekly devotional is available at the Welcome Center or via oslchurch.com. “Change is coming out of the blue. Lutheran Planned Generosity logoIt’s a guessing game, and numbers vary, but many experts state that if everyone made a gift to their local congregation as a part of their legacy plan (anywhere between 2.5% and 10%), there would never be a need to pass an offering plate. Can you imagine? Lutheran Planned Generosity of South Dakota is a free service provided by the South Dakota Synod and ELCA ministry partners across the state to help you create an estate plan honoring your faith and supporting your family. Visit Lutheran Planned Generosity for more information.

Opportunities to Help

Angel Tree logoOSL’s 2022 Angel Tree is up! You can provide for children who may not otherwise receive a Christmas gift by taking one or more cards from the tree near the Library…or you may visit the Virtual Angel Tree and choose one or more digital “cards.” Either way, all gifts (new, unwrapped) are due to the Church Office by Wednesday, November 30. Questions? Contact Melissa Nesdahl, Director of Faith Formation.

Midnight Madness logo 2021Brace yourself—Midnight Madness is returning to OSL! Midnight Madness is when OSL rolls out the red carpet for Augustana University students preparing for finals, for an evening of relaxation, study, and, of course, food! This semester’s Midnight Madness will be on Sunday, December 1a1 from 6:00 p.m. to Midnight—and you can help! Look for sign-up sheets at the Welcome Center for volunteers, dessert- and snack-makers, and financial donations. Thanks for helping to support OSL’s Augie neighbors.

Photo of friendsOne of the greatest gifts we can give to anyone is the gift of our time. A listening ear, a phone call, a quick note can be a source of comfort and a bright spot in someone’s day. OSL’s Caring Friends are volunteers who reach out monthly to OSL members residing in care facilities in the Sioux Falls area. This ministry program was created as an opportunity to minister to those who can no longer participate in worship and fellowship opportunities at OSL, to make them feel connected, and a vital part of their church family. Through phone calls, mail, visits, and prayer, Caring Friends reach out with the Love of Christ to those who often find themselves alone or disconnected. This outreach is an essential part of Our Savior’s mission to connect faith to everyday life. If you would like to participate in this ministry, contact Pr. Tim Lemme (605-336-2942, ext. 19, or tlemme@oslchurch.com) or Ben Weins, Spiritual Care Coordinator (605-336-2942, ext. 28, or bweins@oslchurch.com).

Photo by Milada VigerovaDo you have a friend, neighbor, or relative who has been struggling with the loss of a loved one, loneliness, illness, divorce, or any of countless other life challenges? OSL’s Stephen Ministers, can provide them with the focused care, encouragement, and support they need to make it through the crisis. If someone you know is hurting, contact Pr. Tim Lemme (605-336-2942, ext. 19, or tlemme@oslchurch.com) or Ben Weins, Spiritual Care Coordinator (605-336-2942, ext. 28, or bweins@oslchurch.com), to see how a Stephen Minister can help bring God’s love and care to those in need.

Food to You Mobile Food Pantry logoOSL supports the Food to You Mobile Food Pantry by donating various food items to help local families in need, and helping with food distributions. The item for December is tuna and tuna helper; for January, macaroni and cheese. Always appreciated are toothpaste, shampoo, and deodorant for Hygiene Packs. Place your donations in the marked bins near the south entrance, by the Library.
