masks graphicIn order to care for each other, we are wearing masks at all large group gatherings indoors. This will impact worship and any gatherings in The Gathering Place or other large meeting spaces. Thank you for your cooperation. Stay well!
Making the Grade logoThere is no test-anxiety in the Kingdom of God! Making the Grade is the worship/preaching series for fall 2021, starting this coming weekend. Jesus invites us to sit at his feet and to learn, first-hand, what it means to encounter God in the world.
OSL Children LogoParents and caregivers of OSL students, newborn through fifth grade, be sure to get your child(ren) registered today for the 2021–2022 education year. Find details about the Sunday in-person choices and Wednesday at-home RAW Faith (age four through fifth grade) here.
Kick-Off Weekend 2021 logoKick-Off Weekend is coming up fast—September 11 and 12, to be specific—when OSL returns to regular worship hours, education programming, and, yes, Sunday breakfast! Also, feel free to wear your favorite sports jersey to worship services that weekend!
Animated Alarm ClockSpeaking of regular worship hours: since it’s been a while, here’s a quick refresher on how things will flow come September 11: Saturday evening Festive worship at 5:00, in the Sanctuary; Sunday morning Festive worship at 8:45 and 11:00, in the Sanctuary; and Celebrate worship at 8:45 and 11:00, in the Celebrate Center.

Spring BookSThe OSL Library Fall Book Sale will make its post-pandemic return in October! Donations are being accepted now, so now’s a good time to start culling your collections! (The Library cannot accept textbooks, dictionaries or encyclopedias, or VCR tapes.) The sale will be held on October 2, 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Sunday, October 3, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Photo of people holding handsOSL’s Memory Care Support Group for Caregivers meets weekly on Saturdays at 10:00 a.m., and has recently decided to resume outdoor meetings as weather permits. Meet on the south parking lot, near the picnic table under the trees. Bring your own lawn chair and beverages, and snacks if you wish. Masks will be optional since we physically distance ourselves outdoors. In case of bad weather, the group will meet in Fellowship Hall. Contact Michelle Anderson, RN, Faith Community Nurse, 336-2942, ext. 28, or mianderson@oslchurch.com with questions.
Woman knittingKnitting can be good for you—it can relieve stress, be a good way to cope, and decrease the risk of cognitive impairment as you age. If you enjoy knitting, or would like to learn, join the OSL knitters for a fun and relaxing time knitting with others. The group will meet on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, at 9:30 a.m., in the Oasis Room. COVID protocols will be followed.
Photo of OSL Library The OSL Library is open and waiting for you! Stop in soon and browse the extensive collection of books, music, and movies. Visit the online catalog at Atriuum, which includes the Library’s current hours. See you soon!
Photo of iPadDigital bulletins are available for you to use with your mobile device, whether you worship from home or at OSL. Here is the bulletin for Saturday evening; for Sunday Festive worship; and for Sunday Celebrate worship.

Things to Note…

Friendship Club headerFriendship Club is back! Or at least it will be, come Tuesday, September 14! Pr. Tim will lead the program, which will look at the year gone by and what we’ve done and what we’ve learned from the pandemic. The program will start at 11:00 a.m. (note the new time!), in the Friendship Room, followed by lunch in The Gathering Place. All are welcome—bring a friend!

Bell Tower repairs photoThe latest Bell Tower Project update video, which debuted in last weekend’s worship services, is on the OSL website, along with all of the photos and updates posted throughout the summer. Find it all Find it here! Thanks to Ethan Boyens for the drone video footage.

Smiling plate with knife and forkAgain this year, OSL partnered with EmBe in the Summer Food Service Program, serving as a site for weekday lunches for children through age 18. From the end of the school year through August 18, 9,062 free, nutritious lunches were served. That compares to 3,996 last summer (pandemic, you know), and 10,867 in 2019. Thank you for generously allowing OSL’s facilities to be used to help kids!

And it’s posted to the OSL website as well, so if you haven’t been by for a while, or you’d just like a closer look, find the videos here!

They listen, care, encourage, pray, and give weekly support for as long as the need persists. If someone you know is hurting, find out more about Stephen Ministry by contacting Pr. Tim Lemme, tlemme@oslchurch.com or 336-2942.

Opportunities to Help

Photo of communion elementsIf you’ve been contemplating ways to serve your OSL community, consider serving as a communion team member or an usher—or both! If you were unable to fill out the card that was available in worship services for a couple weeks, just contact Gene LeVasseur, Director of Worship, 336-2942, ext. 40, or glevasseur@oslchurch.com, and let him know you’re interested.

Campus Cupboard photoCollege is resuming, and so is OSL’s Campus Cupboard! Campus Cupboard helps OSL’s Augustana University and University of Sioux Falls neighbors with food items to help them get by when dining halls are unavailable. The Cupboard is now open on Wednesdays, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., and Sundays, from 8:45 to 11:00 a.m. Want to help? The Cupboard is currently in need of peanut butter; jelly; honey; any kind of beans; canned fruits; canned meats; beef jerky; pasta; pasta sauce; and shelf-stable juices and milk. You may leave your donations on the cart inside the south entrance. Thank you for your support of OSL’s Augie and USF neighbors!

Food to You Mobile Food Pantry logoAnother Food to You distribution is coming up, on Thursday September 23, with opportunities for OSL volunteers to help out. This will be a drive-through distribution, with volunteers having limited contact with recipients, at First Lutheran Church (Dakota Avenue at 12th Street). Masks are suggested and gloves will be provided. Full details and sign-up sheet are at the Welcome Center.

Handwriting gifSend a card or a note once or twice a month—that’s all there is to being an OSL Pen Pal for homebound members! Many OSL members are already taking pen in hand to help others feel connected to their church family—why not join them? To sign up, contact Deb Harlan, dharlan@oslchurch.com.
Photo of two friendsShare the kindness of personal connections: OSL Caring Friends serve members who are homebound or in nursing homes or care facilities, to help them feel connected to the Body of Christ and to Our Savior’s. There currently are opportunities to serve as a Caring Friend at a facility in Sioux Falls. Find out more by contacting Deb Harlan, 336-2942, ext. 48, or dharlan@oslchurch.com.
Project CAR logoProject CAR is one of the participating nonprofits in The Human Race, a collaborative fundraising event sponsored by Health Connect of South Dakota, on Saturday, October 2. With two options available—a 1k walk or a 5k run—it’s a great way to help raise funds to support Project CAR’s work in providing rides and get some exercise at the same time. It’s a great event for families, seniors, singles, anyone! Visit Project CAR to register. OSL is a partner church with Project CAR.

Food to You Mobile Food Pantry logoOSL supports the Food to You Mobile Food Pantry by donating various food items to help local families in need, and helping with food distributions. The item for September is hearty soup; for October, any kind of cereal. Always appreciated are toothpaste, shampoo, and deodorant for Hygiene Packs. Place your donations in the marked bins near the south entrance, by the Library.
