OSL Food Ministry is still on summer break for a little while, but you are welcome to engage in OSL’s Core Value of Community by enjoying a cup of coffee and conversation with your OSL friends in The Gathering Place on Sunday mornings. Our Savior’s will host a Worship Summit on Sunday, Aug. 25, at 11:45 a.m., and on Wednesday, Sept. 4, at 6:00 p.m. Ministry leaders representing musicians, sound, media, and TV techs, greeters and ushers, Communion Team Leaders, readers, and Information Center workers will conduct brief overviews of these ministries, and you may sign up to give one (or more) a try. Begin on Sunday with a light lunch in The Gathering Place; the Wednesday group will meet in Fellowship Hall, following supper. OSL Children’s Night at Thunder Road will be on Sunday, August 25, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Simply say you are there for OSL Children’s Night to receive $4.50 mini-golf or one-attraction one-time tickets (or two times in the batting cage, tilt-a-whirl, or laser maze). Children five and younger can mini golf for free with a paying adult. This event is for entire families with a child from infant through fifth grade in the 2018–2019 school year.
The trip of a lifetime is coming up fast! If you’ve been considering joining Prs. Randy and Shelly Gehring on their 2020 trip to Greece and the Passion Play in Oberammergau, Germany, now is the time to register. Tickets to the Passion Play are now in very short supply. Kick-Off Sunday is coming right up—Sept. 8 is when OSL revs up fall programming and returns to regular worship hours. Wednesday evening activities will resume on Sept. 11. There’s a bunch of things you’ll want to know, so check out the info you’ll find here!
Friendship Club is coming back from summer break, kicking off its fall series with a trip to the Herreid Military Museum in Luverne, Minn., on Sept. 10 (a week earlier than usual). After the museum, the group will enjoy lunch at Sterling’s Café. If time permits, there may be a tour of the historic Palace Theatre, too. Travel via motorcoach, $30 per person. The Art of Letting Go: OSL Women’s Fall Retreat will be held at Inspiration Hills, near Inwood, Iowa, from 6:30 p.m. on Friday, September 13, until 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 14. Ashlee Ferguson, an expert on organization, home management, and more, will speak on “The Art of Letting Go: Tackling the Clutter” and “Home Life Balancing Act.” Space is limited, so register before Aug. 25: register online via My OSL, or stop by the Information Center. Hey, second- through fifth-graders who love music, drama, and art: Joyful Noise will be starting on Wednesday, Sept. 11, from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. Joyful Noise will be a fun way to express and grow artistically, develop our faith in God, and add beauty to worship services at OSL. OSL is the sponsor of this year’s Guide Your Feet 5K, a race to support OSL’s partner ministry, Church on the Street, to benefit the unhoused in the community. Guide Your Feet will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, outside the Morrison Commons at Augustana University. Registration will start at 7:30. Register online ($20) or at the race ($25); students can register for $5. All proceeds support the ministry of Church on the Street. Visit churchonthestreetsf.org for more info or to register.
OSL supports the Food to You Mobile Food Pantry by donating various food items to help local families in need, and helping with food distributions. The item for August will be pasta; for September it will be hearty soup. Place donations in the marked bins near the south entrance, by the Library.
Leader training for all Frolic, Sunday and Wednesday School Rotation, Connect, and Confirmation leaders will be on Wednesday, Aug. 28, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., in Fellowship Hall. Leaders will be commissioned on Kick-Off Sunday, Sept. 8, at the worship service of their choosing.
Thanks and appreciation for Meals on Wheels’ summer volunteers, including the OSL youth teams that delivered meals in July. The next volunteer calendar (September through December) is being built now. If you would like to help with this community effort to support the elderly and homebound, call Sandy Garnas, 338-5440. Choose dates that work with your schedule; training is provided for new drivers.
Thanks to your generosity, the OSL Crisis Fund—which assists neigh-bors who are experiencing any of various distresses in their lives—has been replenished by $12,445.10 to date! The Crisis Fund depends on individuals’ contributions—thank you for your generous support of this ministry.
