OSL Food Ministry is taking a summer break, but you are welcome to enjoy a cup of coffee and conversation with your OSL friends in The Gathering Place on Sunday mornings, in support of our Core Value of Community.
Support OSL youth going on summer trips by attending a Pizza Ranch fundraiser this Monday, June 10, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Pizza Ranch on East 10th Street. OSL youth will be there to bus tables, get refills, and hand out mints, with 10% of all carry-out and dine-in sales going to youth trips to Colorado and Duluth. Bring your family, bring your friends, and have a great night out at the 10th Street Pizza Ranch!
Cruisin’ Classics, the first of this year’s OSL Summer Blasts, will be on June 12, featuring the fourth annual OSL Car & Motorcycle Show, plus music by Mogen’s Heroes, food, fun and games, and outdoor worship. The fun starts at 5:00 p.m. If you have a classic car or motorcycle to display, contact Pr. Tim Lemme, 336-2942, ext. 19, or tlemme@oslchurch.com.
Middle School Youth are invited to join the countdown to Summer Blast with a Bonus Blast on June 12, from noon to 5:00 p.m. The Bonus Blast will begin with a lunch provided by the Summer Food Service Program (or bring your own packed lunch, if you like), followed by games in the Youth Room and Gym. Later, the group will help set up for Summer Blast and “test out” the bouncy house. No cost for these events, and friends are always welcome. Youth serving at VBS: stay, and make a day of it!
After each Summer Blast, at 7:00 p.m., high-school students are invited to stay for the High School Fire Pit, a time of conversation, relaxation, and some delicious s’mores. Bring a chair and enjoy the cool night air with John, Mollie, and your friends as we catch up on life and have a lot of fun.
The time is now! If you’ve been considering joining Prs. Randy and Shelly Gehring on their scheduled trip to Greece and the Passion Play in Oberammergau in 2020, now is the time to register. Tickets to the Passion Play are now in very short supply. To secure your place on this trip of a lifetime, contact Pr. Randy, rgehring@oslchurch.com or 336-2942, ext. 11.

The Library Committee has selected Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens as its Summer One Church One Read title. Where the Crawdads Sing is an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps. Check out one of the 11 copies available in the Library, then join the discussion on Sept. 22, at 10:00 a.m., in the Library.

A Little Further Out...

Join Pr. Randy for Summer Bible Study, a four-week study of the book of Colossians, beginning on Tuesday, June 18. The group will meet weekly from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., in The Gathering Place. A $5 donation will help cover the cost of supplies and materials. All are welcome—bring your Bibles!

“Understanding Insurance and EOBs: How to Be Your Own Health Care Advocate” will be the topic when Friendship Club meets again, on Tuesday, June 18. OSL member Julie Holmes, from Avera Health, will be the guest speaker. Friendship Club meets in the Friendship Room at 10:30 a.m., followed by lunch in The Gathering Place. Friendship Club will then take a couple months off for summer break, and be back in September—so be sure you don’t miss this June meeting! Bring a friend!

The OSL Library’s summer reading program, “A Universe of Stories,” runs through Aug. 4. Each day they check out items, children, youth (through high school), and adults will receive a treat; children will also receive a prize. The one who reads the most books in each age group will receive a $15 gift card. The Library will track and display the number of books each person reads on the Universe of Stories bulletin board. Readers will also “testify” how God speaks to them through books by writing on their “planet” on the bulletin board.
OSL’s Men’s Bible Breakfast group meets on the first and third Saturday of each month at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room. A continental breakfast is provided by members at each gathering. Men of all ages are invited to attend this one-hour Bible study when it meets on June 15. Contact Pr. Tim Lemme, tlemme@oslchurch.com or 336-2942, ext. 19.

The Love in Action Core Ministry Team invites a few individuals interested in a service trip to Rosebud, to help build ramps, from June 20 through June 22. Participants will construct about four ramps to give elders much-needed handicap access to their homes. Spots are limited, so contact Pr. Justin ASAP if you’re interested: jkosec@oslchurch.com or 336-2942, ext. 44.
The summer project for OSL’s Peace by Piece quilting ministry will be to make quilts and lap robes for veterans at the VA Hospital, and others in need. If you have red, white, and blue cotton fabric and are looking to find a new home for it, your donation would be welcome! Leave it in the labeled bin near the Library, or in the Church Office. If you need to have it picked up, call Marilyn Quam (323-5545) or Suzie Rusch (334-9012).
