The Library Committee has selected Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens as its Summer One Church One Read title. Where the Crawdads Sing is an exquisite ode to the natural world, a heartbreaking coming-of-age story, and a surprising tale of possible murder. Owens reminds us that we are forever shaped by the children we once were, and that we are all subject to the beautiful and violent secrets that nature keeps. Check out one of the 11 copies available in the Library, then join the discussion on Sept. 22, at 10:00 a.m., in the Library.

A Little Further Out...

The OSL Library’s summer reading program, “A Universe of Stories,” will run from June 2 through Aug. 4. Each day they check out items, children, youth (through high school), and adults will receive a treat. In addition, the one who reads the most books in each age group during the program will receive a $15 gift card. Throughout the program, the Library will track and display the number of books each patron reads on planets on the “Universe of Stories” bulletin board. Each patron will also “testify” how God speaks to them through books by writing on their planet.

Later, the group will help set up for Summer Blast and “test out” the bouncy house. No cost for these events, and friends are always welcome. Youth serving at VBS: stay, and make a day of it!
After each Summer Blast, at 7:00 p.m., high-school students are invited to stay for the High School Fire Pit, a time of conversation, relaxation, and some delicious s’mores. Bring a chair and enjoy the cool night air with John, Mollie, and your friends as we catch up on life and have a lot of fun.

Second, if you are 21 or older, you may apply to work as the part-time Site Coordinator, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. each day. The Site Coordinator is responsible for keeping track of the number of meals served and other administrative details. Contact Barb Haugan, or 336-2942, ext. 23.
