This week’s Coming up at OSL comes to you a day early, because of Thanksgiving. Enjoy the holiday!
Thanksgiving Eve worship will be held in the Sanctuary this evening, Wednesday, November 21, at 6:30. A soup and pie supper will be served beforehand, from 5:00 to 6:15, in The Gathering Place.
The Church Office will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22. No events or activities will take place at OSL on that day.
OSL Food Ministry will serve breakfast this Sunday in The Gathering Place, starting at 9:30. This week’s menu will be a surprise! Wednesday dinner next week will be roast beef, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, Sister Schubert’s rolls, and a delicious dessert. Thank you for contributing to the freewill offering to help cover expenses.
OSL will decorate for Advent and Christmas this Sunday, Nov. 25, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., and Monday, Nov. 26, from 9:00 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. All are welcome to stop by and help out as schedules allow!
Connecting Faith and Life—a study of the book of Jonah— will conclude on Wednesday, Nov. 28, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., in the Friendship Room, with Pr. Randy.
The theme of his year’s stewardship appeal is Share Joy!, based on that well-known verse in Nehemiah, “…the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Nehemiah 8:10). If you have not yet completed your Statements of Intent to support financially the ministry of OSL in 2019, please do so soon! You may use the card mailed to you last week, pick up a card in the Church Office, or complete the form online at Nehemiah reminds us that the joy we experience as a result of God’s faithfulness is a strength that can carry us through even the most difficult challenges. Did you miss the Share Joy stewardship videos shown in worship services in late October? View or re-view them below!
The Angel Tree is up now, near the south entrance, by the OSL Library. By selecting a name from the tree, you will bless an area child from Lutheran Social Services, Volunteers of America, or Children’s Home Society who otherwise may not receive a gift this Christmas season. Stop by the tree and make a difference in someone’s life.
Christmas fudge for the St. Dysmas prison congregation is an OSL tradition you can participate in. Pick up a pre-packaged kit and a package of butter and Velveeta from the Friendship Room refrigerator, follow the recipe exactly (no substitutions!), wrap each piece in plastic wrap, and bring to either OSL or East Side Lutheran by Sunday, Dec. 2. Questions? Call or text Donna Wilson, 359-7718.

A Little Further Out...

The Shepherd on the Search helps children discover the joy of searching for the Christ Child during the Advent season. Every Sunday and Wednesday, beginning on Nov. 28, Library patrons who find one of the 12 baby Jesus figures hidden among the shelves will receive a treat and a prize. Be sure to visit the Library and encourage your child to follow the shepherd’s search for the Christ Child.

The Advent Fair will be on Nov. 28, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., on the Lower Level. There’ll be Christmas goodies and crafts for the whole family to enjoy. Make an evening of it by sharing supper in The Gathering Place beforehand. Students in grade five and younger must attend Advent Fair stations with a parent or caring adult. There will be no Wednesday School or Confirmation on Nov. 28.

The tradition continues! Join Friendship Club on Dec. 18 for its annual Christmas celebration at the Old Country Store in Nora, S.D. Come sing holiday favorites around a vintage pipe organ, hear stories from Christmases past, and enjoy cider, coffee, and treats around the wood-burning stove. The fun will begin with a Christmas lunch at OSL at noon, then a motorcoach ride to Nora and back to OSL around 4:30. Cost is $15 per person, with lunch being a freewill offering.
