Here’s your look at some of the things happening at Our Savior’s. See the current bulletin announcements at oslchurch.com for all the latest!

This weekend is the second in a four-week preaching and LifeGroup series, WORTHY. Last week, Pr. Sami preached about our calling as Worthy Friends. This week, Pr. Justin will speak about the Worthy Legacy given to Jesus’ followers. In following weeks, Pr. Randy will ponder our calling as Worthy Children and Worthy Christians. Each Sunday’s message is accompanied by a complete study guide for OSL’s LifeGroup small groups ministry. Rediscover your worth in Christ Jesus!
OSL Food Ministry will serve breakfast this Sunday in The Gathering Place, starting at 9:30. On the menu: Egg bake, fruit tarts, donut holes, orange juice, and yogurt. Wednesday dinner continues this week too—BBQ riblets, baked beans, cheese hash browns, bread and butter, tossed salad, and dessert. Thank you for contributing to the freewill offering to help cover expenses.
The OSL Library’s Fall Reading Program, “We ‘FALL’ow Jesus,” will run through Oct. 28. Each day they check out items, children, youth, and adults will receive a treat and have their book receipt submitted for a chance to win a weekly $5 drawing. As the program continues, the Library’s Tree of Life display will show the beauty of God’s creation by its leaves of green turning to brilliant golds and reds, representing the ways God richly blesses and transforms us.
Connecting Faith and Life (CFL), an adult learning opportunity for those interested in exploring the life of faith, will continue on Wednesdays, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., in the Friendship Room, with Pr. Randy. The first course: a seven-week focus on the refugee crisis. Through weekly readings, a brief documentary-style video, guided discussion, and group activities, participants will learn to engage and navigate respectfully what can be a difficult subject, while reflecting on how our Christian faith leads us to respond to the plight of our neighbor in need.
OSL Dining Out—an evening of dinner and fellowship at a local restaurant—will meet at Jacky’s Restaurant, 3308 E. 10th St., on Friday Oct. 19, from 5:30 to 7:30. Come and enjoy great food and great fellowship! Sign up at the Information Center or call Donna Wilson, 359-7718.
Peace by Piece quilting ministry will host an open house this Saturday, Oct. 13, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 14, from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Come see the new workspace, learn what the group has been working on, enjoy refreshments, and take a free pocket prayer shawl! Peace by Piece is located at the bottom of the stairs that are next to The Gathering Place kitchen.
Everyone is welcome to the Pumpkin Prayer Cross+Gen Event on Oct. 14, at 10:00 a.m., in Fellowship Hall. Come paint pumpkins and grow in understanding of God’s love through seasonal activity and discussion. This will be in lieu of regular Sunday School and Middle School Youth Group education that day. All students fifth grade and younger must attend with a parent or other caring adult.
OSL Children, Youth, and Family night at the Country Apple Orchard will be on Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Kids through grade 12, along with their parents, are invited for an evening of free train rides, bounce house, hay rides, and more. This will be in lieu of regular Wednesday night programming. Apples, cider, and other food will be available for purchase from the country store. Children in fifth grade and younger must be accompanied by a caring adult.
All OSL members are invited and encouraged to contribute to the 2018 Advent Devotional, “Treasures of Darkness.” Pick up a copy of the Guiding Statement at the Information Center or via oslchurch.com/events, then send your devotional to Bill Reynolds, breynolds@oslchurch.com, by Nov. 9, preferably as a Word document attached to an email message.
The OSL Library is accepting books, movie DVDs, and music CDs for its Fall Book Sale through Oct. 17. The sale will run from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, in the Friendship Room. Communicating with Joy: When Your Friend or Loved One Has Dementia, will be held at OSL on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event is free, but pre-registration is preferred, for planning purposes: visit oslchurch.com, or email Michelle Anderson, RN, Faith Community Nurse, mianderson@oslchurch.com, or leave voicemail for her at 336-2942, ext. 28. RSVP by Monday, Oct. 22.
Church on the Street Empty Bowls event will be held at OSL on Oct. 22, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Come choose a bowl and receive a generous serving of soup and bread made by local churches and served by Church on the Streeters. Keep the bowl as a reminder that there are always empty bowls in the world. Last year Church on the Street served over 2,400 meals to hungry people, plus countless snacks. A suggested donation of $15 per person or $35 per family will help continue the ministry of Church on the Street.

Opportunities and Things to Note...

OSL supports the Food to You Mobile Food Pantry by donating various food items throughout the year, which will be used by local families in need. The food item for October will be cereal of any kind; for November it will be peanut butter. Donations may be placed in the marked bins near the south entrance, by the Library.
Can you open an envelope? Then you’d be perfect to help the offering counters! No big commitment—about two hours a month, especially November through March when snowbirds are gone. Contact Barb, bhaugan@oslchurch.com or 336-2942, ext. 23, to help out.
