Are you in the mood for engaging conversation on matters of faith and life in a fun, informal setting? Then join Pr. Randy for Theology Tapped, tonight, Thursday, Sept. 27, from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m., at Monk’s House of Ale Repute, 420 E. 8th St.
OSL Dining Out—an evening of dinner and fellowship at a local restaurant—will meet at Cowboy Chicken, 41st St. and Garfield Ave., this Friday, Sept. 28, at 5:30 p.m. Come and enjoy great food and great fellowship! Questions? Donna Wilson, 359-7718.
OSL Food Ministry will serve breakfast this Sunday in The Gathering Place, starting at 9:30. On the menu: egg bake and fresh fruit. Wednesday dinner continues this week too—tater tot casserole, tossed salad, Jell-O, buns, dessert. Thank you for contributing to the freewill offering to help cover expenses.
The OSL Library’s Fall Reading Program, “We ‘FALL’ow Jesus,” will run through Oct. 28. Each day they check out items, children, youth, and adults will receive a treat and have their book receipt submitted for a chance to win a weekly $5 drawing. As the program continues, the Library’s Tree of Life display will show the beauty of God’s creation by its leaves of green turning to brilliant golds and reds, representing the ways God richly blesses and transforms us.
Connecting Faith and Life (CFL), an adult learning opportunity for those interested in exploring the life of faith, will continue on Wednesdays, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., in the Friendship Room, with Pr. Randy. The first course: a seven-week focus on the refugee crisis. Through weekly readings, a brief documentary-style video, guided discussion, and group activities, participants will learn to engage and navigate respectfully what can be a difficult subject, while reflecting on how our Christian faith leads us to respond to the plight of our neighbor in need.

“Your Past Does Not Define You” will be the presentation at Addiction Awareness Ministry Sunday, Sept. 30, at 10:00 a.m., in the Friendship Room. Michael Gross will share his story of how God led him away from a life of pain and onto a path of peace and hope. All are welcome!
Hey, Snowbirds! OSL is teaming with Lifetouch to produce a new photo directory, which will be out early next year. A first round of photography will begin on Oct. 16 so you may have your portrait taken before you leave the Snow Belt! (You don’t have to be a Snowbird to sign up for October—there will be more sessions in December, January, and February.) The OSL Library is accepting books, movie DVDs, and music CDs for its Fall Book Sale through Oct. 17. The sale will run from 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20, and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21, in the Friendship Room. A large selection of children’s and adult fiction and nonfiction books will be for sale, along with music CDs and movie DVDs.

A Little Further Out...

OSL will celebrate 30 years of Stephen Ministry next Sunday, Oct. 7! Come to The Gathering Place between worship services that morning for refreshments, information, and a presentation on Stephen Ministries throughout the years, plus information on how you too can become part of Stephen Ministries. Dr. Julie Kahl, former OSL pastor who was instrumental in bringing Stephen Ministries to Our Savior’s, will be on hand as well. The Kindergarten Caring Conversations Milestone will be on Sunday, Oct. 7. Students and their parents will receive a blessing during the 8:45 a.m. Celebrate worship service, then, at 10:00, will have Family Time with Pr. Sami in the Friendship Room, and make a conversation cube together. Kindergartners in Sunday School will 2not attend education that day, since they will be in Family Time with their parents.
Peace by Peace quilting ministry will host an open house on Saturday, Oct. 13, from 4:00 to 6:30 P.M., and Sunday, Oct. 14, from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M. Come see the new workspace, learn what the group has been working on, enjoy refreshments, and take a free pocket prayer shawl! Peace by Peace is located at the bottom of the stairs that are next to The Gathering Place kitchen.
Family Favorites Pot Luck Supper, sponsored by the Congregational Life board, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 27, at 6:00 p.m., in The Gathering Place. Bring your family’s favorite dish to share with others—and bring copies of the recipe to share too!
All OSL members are invited and encouraged to contribute to the 2018 Advent Devotional, “Treasures of Darkness.” Pick up a copy of the Guiding Statement at the Information Center, then send your devotional to Bill Reynolds,, by Nov. 9, preferably as a Word document attached to an email message.
The Blood Mobile will return to OSL next Sunday, Oct. 7, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sign up at the Information Center. Walk-ins are welcome.
Looking for a place to connect with other adults at OSL, take advantage of some time for renewal on Sunday morning, and enjoy some special coffee and treats? Then check out Sabbath Seekers, on Sunday, Oct. 7, from 10:00 to 10:50, in Fellowship Hall. There’s no agenda and no program—drop in and out as you please. This is your time! Pr. Sami will be there to facilitate or to talk or pray, if you would like.
Come for a hearing screening and educational opportunity on Wednesday, Oct. 10, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m., in Caring Ministries. Dr. Kristen Kaufman of Audiology Specialty Clinic will conduct hearing screenings from 4:00 to 6:00 (all ages welcome), followed by Q&A time at 6:30 to discuss the newest technological interventions. Everyone is welcome to the Pumpkin Prayer Cross+Gen Event on Oct. 14, at 10:00 a.m., in Fellowship Hall. Come paint pumpkins and grow in understanding of God’s love through seasonal activity and discussion. This will be in lieu of regular Sunday School and Middle School Youth Group education that day. All students fifth grade and younger must attend with a parent or other caring adult.
OSL Children, Youth, and Family night at the Country Apple Orchard will be on Wednesday, Oct. 17, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Kids through grade 12, along with their parents, are invited for an evening of free train rides, bounce house, hay rides, and more. This will be in lieu of regular Wednesday night programming. Apples, cider, and other food will be available for purchase from the country store. Children in fifth grade and younger must be accompanied by a caring adult.

Opportunities and Things to Note...

The hardest thing about Hospital Visitation is finding a parking space. Hospital visitation is an important ministry that lets OSL members know they matter to both God and their church family. OSL supports the Food to You Mobile Food Pantry by donating various food items throughout the year, which will be used by local families in need. The food item for October will be cereal of any kind. Donations may be placed in the marked bins near the south entrance, by the Library.
The Caring Friends Program expands OSL’s visitation program to members who are homebound or in nursing homes or care facilities. How may you participate in this important ministry?
