Advent Day 16 – Monday, December 17
“Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Psalm 119:105
Look and Listen…
The sun’s golden rays fade from view.
Deep blues and greys give way to darkness.
The sounds of the day disappear.
Look and Listen…
Distant stars appear.
The moon rises over the horizon.
An owl hoots. Crickets chirp.
Leaves rustle in the wind.
Rain or sleet taps on window panes.
There is richness to the darkness if we allow ourselves to perceive it.
Look and Listen…
Trust in God.
Talk to God in prayer.
Read His Word.
Open your entire being to God.
Listen to God.
In the darkest times God is ever present. He is there as much as the radiant sun in the daytime or the twinkling stars and moonlight in the night. Listen with your heart and hear what God is telling you.
During this Advent season, as we anticipate the birth of our Savior, help us to realize, dear God, that you are always with us when darkness surrounds us and overwhelms us. You are as bright as the shining star over Bethlehem that led the shepherds and the Magi to the manger. Help us to see and to keep your bright light in our hearts and our ears open to his calling. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.
