On Thursday, May 13, the CDC issued a new guideline for persons who are vaccinated against the coronavirus that causes COVID–19 that states:
If you are fully vaccinated, you can resume activities that you did prior to the pandemic.
• Fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.
• If you haven’t been vaccinated yet, find a vaccine.

The immediate effect of this announcement on our life together at Our Savior’s is that the expectation that masks will be worn during worship will be removed. Because the announcement came later in the week, any other adjustments to how we worship together will be considered next week and communicated in the pastoral letter that will be published on Wednesday, May 19.

While this news is a welcome sign that we are making good progress in our collective efforts to slow the spread of COVID–19, let us also remember above everything else that our calling as Jesus followers is to love one another in all circumstances. As we continue to find our way forward during extraordinary times, let us remain resolute in being a church whose love and care for all is our most consistent witness, whether we wear masks or not.

Be well and press on,
Pr. Randy
