OSL Responds to COVID-19
Pastoral Letter #8
Week of 6 May 2020
Dear OSL Family,
May the God who calls us to be faithful, hopeful, loving followers of Jesus fill you with unfading peace in these ongoing days of uncertainty.
It’s Stewardship Sunday!
This Sunday is the day when we will make our offering to God by completing our Estimate of Giving cards. If you haven’t done so yet, please take some time before Sunday to review the materials you received in the mail last week. Once you have become familiar with our 2020 vision for ministry, talk and pray with each other about what God is calling you to give in support of our shared ministry to proclaim Christ and nurture faith that connects to everyday life.
During distance worship on Sunday, we will pause for a bit so that each of us may complete our Estimate of Giving cards and present them as an act of worship in gratitude for the blessings God has generously shared with us. In the week that follows, please return your Estimate of Giving card to the Church Office either through the mail or in person during our adjusted office hours (Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon)
Your Generosity Story
Because Generosity is one of our core values here at OSL, we want to hear your generosity story. Click here or type oslchurch.com/faithful-hopeful-loving in your internet browser to access the form where you can share your story. All of the stories we receive will be recorded and archived on our website so that the story of OSL’s generosity may be told well into the future.
A Time of Adapting
In these days when everything seems to be changing, stories abound of how God’s people are adapting to meet the needs of their neighbors. One such story comes from our quilting ministry aptly named “Peace by Piece.”
Over the past several weeks, the women who are a part of this ministry have gone from making quilts, which typically are sent near and far to those in need of a warm blanket, to sewing facemasks, crocheting prayer shawls and baby caps, and even collaborating with area health providers to assemble mask kits for medical staff members.
In addition, they are supporting one another by staying in touch through email and phone calls and encouraging one another to remain faithful to God by providing care for each other and those who are in need. Let’s hear it for OSL’s quilting ministry Peace by Piece!
Announcing: Text to Give
We are pleased to announce a new option for giving in support of OSL’s mission: Text to Give. For those who would prefer a streamlined giving option using a smart device, simply text the word Sharing to 73256. You will receive a link that, when clicked, will take you to a secure page where you may give to any number of OSL ministry funds using a credit or debit card. Try it out this Sunday during worship to see how easy it is.
Returning to Normal
Your leadership team at OSL continues to monitor circumstances that are making it necessary to cancel all in-person activities at the church through May 17. While we long to be together in community, it is and will continue to be in everyone’s best interest to remain diligent in social distancing and proper hand hygiene.
At the same time, we have begun taking initial steps in developing a comprehensive plan for when we will be able to resume in-person activities. Of utmost concern will be putting into practice measures that will help everyone at Our Savior’s to participate in activities safely. This will likely result in doing things like we have never done them before, but as the last eight weeks have taught us, we need to find appropriate ways to adapt to what has become our new normal so that we can continue to fulfill the mission God has given us despite ever-changing circumstances.
A Final Word
We are grateful for your partnership in ministry and we pray that God will continue to bless you and your loved ones with good health as well as faith, hope, and love as you serve as God’s people in this world.
In Christ’s unfading peace,
Your pastors at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church,
Rev. Randy Gehring,
Rev. Tim Lemme,
