Some thoughts on prayer, from the July-August Gather magazine:
“Whether they (prayers) are short or long, in lyrical stanzas or one-word gasps, our prayers bind our hearts to God. We can be bold to pray in confidence that God will change our hearts, enrich our souls, increase our strength and renew our minds to live without fear.”
“…let us pray so we won’t forget: No matter what happens, God is with us.”
“…God’s answer to prayer—whether or not a particular petition is granted—is akin to God saying, ‘I see you. I love you. I am with you. No matter what.’”
“Who are your enemies? What about them is lovable? What can you ask for them in prayer? My message today? Pray … for anyone who is different or threatening and scares you. Pray for them. Love them. Then watch as your own heart softens, transforms, and begins to engage the world in a manifestly different way.”
August Bible Study. “Let Us Pray, Session Two: The Expressions of Prayer” by Anna Madsen. (Source: gathermagazine.org.) Focus Verse: “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God. And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:26–28
