About the Foundation
The Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Foundation was started in 1978 for the purpose of supporting the ministry of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. The Foundation is responsible for gathering assets, managing assets, and making distributions to serve OSL.
The Foundation board works diligently to establish policies and procedures for all activities of the Foundation and provides ongoing oversight of those activities. Financial statements are prepared every year by an accounting firm to ensure accuracy and integrity.
Each year the board evaluates requests that reflect current needs of Our Savior’s and available funds are distributed to fulfill those requests. The Foundation uses a 16-quarter rolling average of total assets multiplied by 4.5% to determine the amount that can be used for grants each year. This ensures the ongoing sustainability of the Foundation. During the past five years, the Foundation has given $678,400 to Our Savior’s to support various ministry needs.

The Foundation gathers and grows assets in numerous ways, but in the end it is the generosity of members and friends of OSL that is the key to long-term success. The Foundation manages approximately $3.7 million of assets, which has grown over the years because members and friends have been active stewards. Gifts come in the form of memorials, donations, and legacy gifts. Legacy gifts involve a process in which donors determine the ultimate purpose and beneficiaries of their financial and estate plans. If you have contemplated ways to make a lasting impact on the mission of your church home, contact the Church Office, 605-336-2942.
Other resources to assist with estate planning include attorneys, accountants, financial planners, or Lutheran Planned Generosity located in the South Dakota Synod office on the campus of Augustana University. You may also contact any of the foundation board members listed below for assistance.
