Can’t Miss Church

This is my favorite time of year! Forget Christmas with all the trimmings. Summer vacations at the lake? They’re great, in their own way. But they’re not…this.

This is spring, that time when the earth wakes up from a long winter’s slumber, that season when the sights and sounds and smells are bursting with new life. Neighbors come out of hiding and get reacquainted, congratulating each other on making it through another South Dakota winter. Every corner of creation is overrun with hope: from the returning birds eager to build their nests to the newborn calves in the barn; from the seeds planted carefully in the soil to the tentative tendrils of the early season perennials; from the warmth of the sun’s rays to the gentle rains that quench the thirst of the arid grasslands of the prairie. Everything about this season signals there is reason to hope again, and in my opinion, there is no greater message. It’s “Can’t Miss Life.” Everything about this season draws us into a full-bodied experience that restores the human soul.

This season is “Can’t Miss Church” as well. It’s Easter, that time when we join our voices with Christians around the world to retell the greatest love story of all time, that God, out of great love for all of creation, gave his only Son so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but instead will have eternal life (see John 3:16). Through the witness of scripture, we are drawn into the drama of Holy Week and hear yet again the fantastic tale of God’s expansive love overpowering the grip of evil and sin through the selfless and redemptive sacrifice of Jesus. It’s a story meant just for you. It’s a story for the whole world. It’s Can’t Miss Church because it’s a story that makes all the difference for you and for all.

Join us for Holy Week Worship at Our Savior’s:
Palm Sunday – Saturday, April 8, 5:00 p.m.; Sunday, April 9, 8:45 and 11:00 a.m.
Service of Healing – Tuesday, April 11, 6:30 p.m.
Maundy Thursday – Thursday, April 13, 12:00 and 6:30 p.m.
Good Friday – Friday, April 14, 6:30 p.m.
Holy Saturday – Saturday, April 15, 5:00 p.m.
Easter Sunday – Sunday, April 16, 7:00, 8:45, and 11:00 a.m.

Another Can’t Miss event at OSL—and one that you’ll want to tell your friends and neighbors about—is Sweet Life! Dessert Comedy Theatre on Friday, April 7. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., scrumptious desserts will be served at 7:00, and a 90-minute comedy concert by Christian comedian Scott Davis (right) will begin at 7:30 in the Celebrate Center. It will be a night of laughter, fellowship, and reveling in the good news of a God whose incredible love not only gives each of us reason to hope but who also calls us to be agents of that love and joy to the rest of the world. Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door, and are available in the Church Office and online at oslchurch.com. It’s Can’t Miss Church at OSL!
