“Is such the fast that I choose,
a day to humble oneself?
Is it to bow down the head like a bulrush,
and to lie in sackcloth and ashes?
Will you call this a fast,
a day acceptable to the LORD?”

Often in Lent, people try some kind of discipline to focus their spirituality. In Isaiah, though, God warns that our ideas of spiritual discipline may not match what God actually wants for our lives. Consider a time when a spiritual discipline did not encourage your faith.
