Opportunities to Serve

The next Dinner to Your Door meal-making session will be on Monday, June 4, at 10:00 a.m., in The Gathering Place kitchen. Dinner to Your Door provides a meal to OSL members in need due to illness or situational challenge or crisis. If you know someone who would benefit from a Dinner to Your Door meal, contact Michelle Anderson, 336-2942, ext. 28, or Deb Harlan, 336-2942, ext. 48. Let Deb know if you plan to help prepare meals on June 4.

Serve OSL TV Ministry as a camera operator on Sunday mornings—two openings now exist. It’s fun and easy, and a great way to help spread OSL’s ministry far and wide. Stop by the TV control room on the lower level on Sunday morning to join up. Training will be provided.

Caring Ministries has a volunteer opportunity for people to help greet members who are coming to the Footcare Clinic on the first Wednesday of each month. Opportunities exist in the morning, from 9:00 to noon, and afternoon, noon to 3:00. Contact Michelle Anderson, RN, Faith Community Nurse, 336-2942, ext. 28, or mianderson@oslchurch.com, to help serve in this ministry.

The Summer Food Service Program will return to OSL this year. In 2017, OSL served over 8,000 free meals to young people in the community through this partnership with Embe. You can be a part of this exciting ministry in two ways. First, you can volunteer! Volunteers help wipe down tables between busloads of children, help the littlest ones with their trays, and welcome all guests. There also are opportunities for volunteers to read stories and lead other activities you enjoy. You can participate as your schedule allows. Second, those who are 21 and older may apply to work as the part-time Site Coordinator, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. each day. The Site Coordinator is responsible for keeping track of the number of meals served and other administrative details. Contact Pr. Sami, sjohnson@oslchurch.comor 336-2942, ext. 12, to get involved.
The Food to You item for May is peanut butter. Your food donations will be used by local families in need. Donations may be placed in the marked bins near the south entrance, by the Library. Thank you for your generosity!
Among the many opportunities to serve OSL and the larger community, two currently stand out: Ushers and Information Center hosts. Each of these volunteer positions is an important component of Our Savior’s dedication to hospitality, to members and visitors alike. The time commitment is not great, and schedules are adjustable. Contact Loretta Nelson, lnelson@oslchurch.com or 336-2942, ext. 14, for more information.
Death, whether expected or sudden, affects all of us at one time or another, and the church plays an important role in helping people cope with loss. You can help fill that role through OSL’s Bereavement Ministry Program, delivering a Bereavement Packet and Dinner to Your Door meal to members who have recently lost a loved one. Contact Deb Harlan, 336-2942, ext. 48, or dharlan@oslchurch.com, to help with this important ministry.
Winter doesn't stop The Caretakers, a group of volunteers who help with clean-up and various other chores around the OSL campus. During the cold months, the group always finds things to do inside. To join the Caretakers, simply show up in The Gathering Place on any Thursday morning, as you are able, from 9:00 to noon. Wear appropriate work clothes (hat and work gloves) and bring a water bottle. Tools will be provided. Questions? Contact Jim Ryan, 941-9314.
